Amanda Seyfried_McQueenAnne Hathaway_PradaAnne Hathaway wore a pink Prada that was majorly criticised as a ‘disater’ by Hollywood’s fashion police. But then Anne had to do a last minute change an opt for the Prada number that she wore for the Oscars. She was supposed to wear a specially-made Valentino gown to the OscarsAnne had learned the night before the Oscars that Amanda Seyfried was going to be wearing an Alexander McQueen gown that resembled her Valentino.

The inside details of Anne Hathaway’s dress-drama was revealed by US Weekly:

US Weekly has brand-new details on what went down between Les Miserables costars Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried the day before the Academy Awards — and caused a panicked Hathaway to ditch her planned Valentino gown in favor of a Prada creation for her Oscar-winning night.

An insider close to the situation tells US Weekly that Hathaway learned during an Oscar rehearsal at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 22 that Seyfried planned to wear a dress notably similar to hers to the ceremony. After Hathaway asked about her pal’s dress, Seyfried graciously shared an iPhone snap of the Alexander McQueen creation.”

Amanda Seyfried_OscarsAnne Hathaway_OscarsIt’s not ANNE’s fault nor is it Valentino’s fault that Amanda Seyfried wore a Sarah Burton/McQueen gown, which was so strikingly similar. But I just get the feeling that Anne was and is so incredible Nautanki Saali that when one part of her Oscar strategy faltered (the dress!), it felt like her whole world was crashing down. Here’s what I don’t get though – why did Anne end up picking that terrible Prada? Surely she had better back-up options than that?

A Fashion Week is not complete without some scandal, gossip and tu-tu – main-main! The otherwise bland Lakme Fashion WeeK Summer/Resort 2011 had its share of gossip and scandal on the final day.

And where there is Scandal. gossip and fashion fashionscandal.com is there!

First we had Vikram Phadnis, Neeta Lulla and Nikasha Tawade grumbling that the organisers of Lakme Fashion Week are biased towards Delhi – Designers (Ufff…yet again Delhi versus Mumbai Fashion. Aren’t we all sick of it?). Their other grouse was all the ‘Sponsored Shows’ are given to Delhi designers or the ‘Favourites’ of Lakme and IMG. Anil Chopra of Lakme was prompt in discounting the venom spilled by Phadnis, Lulla and Tawade by saying, “Three designers don’t make a Fashion Week!”

The real chatpata incident happened as the Grand Finale show by Guari & Nainika (This is what the trio above was referring to.) was on. Hyderabad based designer Anand Kabra was Tweeting about Gauri and Nainika’s show while watching it and so were a couple of Dolly Auntie Fashion Editors. The comments were definitely derogatory and was in the lines of …“So Valentino…soooo Marchesa…”. In fact I have noticed that our desi fashion scribes are very keen to point out such an such outfit has been ripped off from so an so international designer. It basically is way to show-off that how clued in they are with international fashion. Like I remember wher G&N showcased their spring/summer 2010 collection, some said it’s a rip-off of Marchesa’s Spring 2007 Collection. Why? Simply because both the designs had a rose on the bust? Nobody has a patent on Rose and besides the silhouettes are so different. See the pictures below.

Gauri and Nainika’s publicist, Arjun Sawhney didn’t take these Tweeting bit lying down. He tweeted back and how:

Arjun Sawhney

*and now there are so very many of them

*i wonder if these “fashion” bloggers with 90 odd followers realise for inconsequential they really are in the larger scheme of things

@masabagupta you bitch people out on an open forum and say it was in good humor ! Really! talk about bad taste

*Why can’t these losers concentrate on their own work instead of spreading poison around

*The idiot designer masab(a) didn’t even watch the gauri nainika finale and bitched about them talk about being petty minded

By the way, I would like to say that Anand Kabra is a good designer. His sensibilities are different from that of G&N’s but that doesn’t make him bad! Also I wish Anil Chopra takes the reigns of LFW in his hands and do something to put life back in to LFW. It’s definitely going down and believe you me, it’s got nothing to do with Delhi Vs Mumbai fashion war!

I thought true-blue fashionistas follow the thumb-rule of wearing the host designer’s creations at their shows and soirees. It’s a way of showing solidarity. But I was shocked to discover that the busty-lusty Elizabeth Hurley wore Dior to the Valentino Garavani Archives Dinner Party at Versailles. Interestingly it wasn’t a one time faux pas. Liz Hurley wore Dior even at Valentino Haute Couture Show in Paris the same afternoon. For the Valentino Couture show Liz wore a pink silk georgette Dior dress and for the evening gala dinner she looked tempting in a lilac silk chiffon bustier Dior dress. It’s like a double slap for Valentino and at the same time a double-whammy for Christian Dior.

It’s not that Elizabeth Hurley didn’t have any Valentino dresses in her closet. Arun Nayyar definitely splurges on her.

I don’t know if I am right about the thumb-rule of donning the dress of the designer whose show or the dinner you attending. What do you say folks? In fact I have seen Kalyani Shah Chawla, our very own Dior ambassador in Pratap jacket or a shirt at Pratap’s show. In fact here if we spot a real fashionista in a Sabyasachi number at Tarun Tahiliani’s Bridal exposition, tabloids will go screaming ‘Breaking News – Breaking News’.
