The set at the finale show was grander, the models were from India and some amazing Trance music played on Live. Sonam Kapoor was their in the audience dressed in a Manish Arora saree.

Designer Manish Arora showcased his Ready-To-Wear (RTW) Fall-Winter 2013 collection at the Paris Fashion Week on 28th February and yes, the collection was typical ‘Manish Arora’. However I felt that he cramped in too many stories or fashion elements in his 45-pieces collection.

manish-arora-013manish-arora-014There were multiple looks cramped in: one emphasizing psychedelic geometric digital prints, second one that hewed to the very Indian colors of pink and yellow and featured Deco black crystal embroidery, and then a sedate look in textural navy and black that Arora had decorated with various kinds of jewel-like embellishment.

In addition to that, there was a knitwear category, a first time use of knits by Manish that had navy Lurex pieces worn with piles of gold jewelry. The textural black and navy looks were probably the best part of Manish Arora’s Fall 2013 collection. The trim skirts and tops with multicolor stones were nice too.

By the way Manish Arora’s Fall-Winter 2013 RTW collection was inspired by the Burning Man festival in Nevada.

Theatricality is a Gaultier specialty. And it wouldn’t have been an ’80s pop-themed Paris fashion week show without the lights and props and dancing troupe to go with it. The Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer 2013 show was an homage to all the greats from the 80s (and some 70s, too)–like Madonna, Boy George, and Michael Jackson. There were even KISS impersonators sitting front row!

Grace Jones: Part android, part human, Grace Jones was a muse to many in the 80s. Her penchant for strong shoulders and sharp features are unmistakable.Madonna“Borderline,” Desperately Seeking Susan, fishnets stockings used as hair ties–not to mention, Madonna was the originator of the arm party. She was so damn cool in the 80s.Madonna circa “Blonde Ambition: Jean Paul Gaultier, of course, introduced the cone bra to the world on Madonna’s bosoms during her Blonde Ambition tour. And that high ponytail? Cheerleaders around the world still wear that.More Madonna: Jessica Stam looks eerily, creepily exactly like Madonna here (center). Is it the eyebrows? Something.Annie Lennox: Doing androgyny like no one else.Michael Jackson: There’s plenty of Michael Jackson inspiration to go around. Love the little shrunken jackets. Philip Treacy too did a MJ inspired show at his comeback at London Fashion Week.Boy George: Karlie Kloss is Boy George here. I don’t think she should have any problems with a Halloween costume this year.David Bowie: Bowie as Ziggy Stardust has obviously influenced fashion and magazine covers forever. This super literal translation may never make it into production but it’s very fun to look at.Sade: From the eyebrows to the sleek hair and signature hoops, Joan Smalls and company are total “Smooth Operators”.

Fashionscandal was the first to break the news of Manish Arora being appointed as the Creative director of Paco Rabanne. We published this as early as 22nd December 2010. Here is the link to that post:

Many rubbished the news but I stuck to it as it was TRUE. Truth wins and Fashionscandal is all about the TRUTH!

Manish Arora will showcase his first collection as the Paco Rabanne Creative Director during the Spring-Summer 2012 of Paris Fashion Week to be held in October 2011. Manish now virtually lives out of Paris and has quaint and cozy pad in the heart of Paris. Way to go Manish. You do us PROUD!

The Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2011 collection flattens out the runway and provides a two-dimensional feel with its box-cut pieces.

The boards on the featured garments were upholstered in androgynous looks of boyfriend blazers and menswear pants. Looks like the designer is trying to tell us that straight lines and strong shoulders are the in-look for the coming seasons. Check out these boxy models catwalk down the runway.

Paris Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2011 opened with outrageous designs. Boldness was in the air at ready-to-wear shows on Thursday, as designers here delivered over-the-top looks with Manish Arora taking the lead with his ‘Beach Baroque’ look.

The collection was Lady Gaga(ish) with sculpted cocktail dresses dripped in sequins, rhinestones and huge gold appliqués. In fact Gold was everywhere, in scales and twists that defined ankles, bulked out shoulders, circled necks or the small of the back, creating reptilian body armour, like shoulder-to-wrist armbands of spiked gold as worn by women of Rajasthan.

I particularly liked the automobile motif – with model cars worn as headgear, in gold or canary yellow, or in one case chopped up and patch worked into a yellow top.
