On the 4th of July 2011 Fashionscandal.com posted that Couture Week 2011 is back on track with the Sponsor isuue being sorted out. FS also reported that the afternoon slot with 5 New Couturiers will be held too, which were to be cancelled in case sponsorship issue wasn’t shorted out.

When I BROKE THE NEWS on fashionscandal.com that, ‘Couture Week is in Troubled Waters’ as the Title Sponsor – Pearls backed out from the Couture Week because of impending matters with the Enforcement Directorate, the aspiring new couturiers in the add-on afternoon slot cried MURDER. No I won’t blame all the five designers who were to showcase in the afternoon slot, but couple amongst them started weaving conspiracy theories. This is the biggest problem plaguing the Indian Fashion Fraternity. Everybody sees a conspiracy somewhere or the other. Instead of being positive and trying to work towards helping get a new sponsor, the couple of designers complained, - “It’s Not Fair.” Well dearies, falling out of a sponsor at the last minute wasn’t somebody’s doing. It was unforeseen.
Anyway the five new couturiers who were to be part of the Delhi Couture Week 2011 in a newly created afternoon slot have now reasons to be happy. I have learnt from highly reliable sources that the ‘Sponsor’ issue has been sorted out. It will take a couple of days to formalise it and hopefully by the 6th of July when the FDCI Board meets on the return of its President, Sunil Sethi from London, things would be crystal clear. So don’t worry, be happy. Thank your luck that there are still some hardworking people associated at the helm of affairs in FDCI who don’t give-up!
Every other designer wants to be in the Couture Week. In fact some feel that if Delhi Couture Week maintains a slot of 10-14 designers, the upcoming ones will never get a chance. True but then have a bloody strong and competent Jury who will decide these 14 names judiciously, irrespective of clout, network and influence of free clothes. And yes, every designer who makes lehnga-cholis think they deserve a spot in Couture Week. Really?

Only Sanjana Jon can do it – get a sponsor to fund her birthday bash.
Well for celebrating her birthday, Sanjana embarked upon a fresh social cause – ‘Go Green’ – and roped in a sponsor, a builder making eco-friendly ‘Earth Towne’. Smart huh? She gave up her other charitable cause – ‘Girl Child’ and went with ‘Green’ to milk a sponsor. In fact even Chunky Pandey is known for roping in sponsors for his birthday parties. But then a sponsor gets his moolah’s worth by sponsoring a film star’s birthday. Wonder what our Builder bhai got from sponsoring Sanjana Jon’s birthday. Local Page 3s covered this lack-luster evening and ignored the poor builder.
Birthday girl – Sanjana wore a ‘Green’ (probably self-designed) tacky gown, which didn’t look like eco-fashion at all. Even the cake was ‘Green’, which was definitely coloured by chemical additives. So much for a ‘Green’ Birthday. Many happy returns of the day, Sanjana!
Remember the breakaway Delhi Fashion Week initiated by former FDCI, ED, Sumeet Nair? Yes, it’s off now and not to worry, not coming back to harrow us with two-two fashion weeks. Why I’m talking about DFW is that the gentleman- JP Singh who sponsored DFW (not entirely) has been arrested by CBI on bribery charges. Well our Louis Vuitton’s desi brand ambassador – JP was a fixer and he was arrested for facilitating a Rs. 2crore bribery to the President of Medical Council of India, Ketan Desai for clearance to a Medical College in Punjab.
JP was a darling to the fashion fraternity. Besides sponsoring Rs.50lacs for DFW, he used to treat our freeloading models to Dom & Moet at the Diamond Lounge @ F Bar. JP Singh literally gave 25% sale to LV in India. All the Euro-Trash hookers got LV bags from JP as gifts. In fact when he used to walk in to DLF Emporio, all the store managers used to lure him to their stores. Such was his Tashan.I wrote about him in HT some 8-9 months back, about his fixing ways with 2 Ministers from South of India so JP got highly pissed. Many of his freeloading model friends & fashionistas and a senior cop subtly threatened me too. But you guys know I have this bad habit of writing the truth so I cared a damn…
Anyway hope all those who had loads of fun on JP Singh’s account will go pay him a visit in Tihar. The poor chap deserves this much for all those bottles of Dom Perignon in LV Bags! Wadddyaa Say???
