Bickering started on selection of Couturiers for Delhi Couture Week

FDCI’s new venture – Delhi Couture Week slated for 15th-18th July 2010 has already ignited ‘Fashion Mahabharat’. The jury that primarily comprised of Editors of Fashion Glossies have shortlisted 12 names for the grand show. There are 13 more names, who would be allowed showcasing through stalls. But the fight is for the 12 slots and one name is particularly causing frayed tempers.I wouldn’t like to name that designer but I am sure once the list is out you all will know who the bone of contention is. From very reliable sources, I discovered that the controversial name managed to sway some Editrix at the last moment to vote in his favour. Wonder who leaked the names of the Jury?Intense lobbying is still going on and in days to come i will fill you up with all the drama. What shocks me out of my wits are those designers who think that since they sell lehengas, they qualify as couturiers. The controversial designer who managed the Prime 12 slot also claimed he made lehengas and sarees and red-carpet ensembles for Bollytown Babes. I think they should call it Delhi Bridal Week instead of Couture Week if lehengas is what we will get to see. I sincerely hope I am wrong!

I wonder why only 12 designers have been chosen to do shows when the sponsor has agreed for 20..Who are these designers presurising the FDCI..shame on them…also giving free shows for Couture week is going to have every one up in arms….All FDCI members should get 1 free show every year…That’ll be acceptable to all..

20 designers for Couture would dilute it I guess.
Free shows for all in FDCI??? That’s getting greedy…

i think i know the designer, hes a bigtime celib ass licker and hangs aroud with b grade bollywood babes. he is more of a shaadi designer …

i think all this couture week ,mens week is just another publicity gimmick….wrs the business ?
the last edition in march hardly had any buyers ? fdci should concentrate first on getting the quality right….thr s no criteria for anythng…most of the times the jury also knows nothing…its bizzare..indian fashion scene just sucks…its all power game which decides whos showing and whos not…why cnt be thr any transparency.

believe it or not! our politicians should take classes from the desi fashion fraternity, they have the best political moves when it comes to getting shows, sponsored slots, presidents candy s,meaning of couturier should be justified by your work and accolades , dressing up btown ladies, or making some super gawdy clothing with no aesthetics of design. wonder who is the judge here choosing the designers .
i think for such shows it should be made into a contest where each designer sends a piece of his collection those teamed collection then publish in a catalog, made to public all jury members should be named their credibility to asses.
ethics has to be set right to touch the global scale.
