FDCI’s new venture – Delhi Couture Week slated for 15th-18th July 2010 has already ignited ‘Fashion Mahabharat’. The jury that primarily comprised of Editors of Fashion Glossies have shortlisted 12 names for the grand show. There are 13 more names, who would be allowed showcasing through stalls. But the fight is for the 12 slots and one name is particularly causing frayed tempers.I wouldn’t like to name that designer but I am sure once the list is out you all will know who the bone of contention is. From very reliable sources, I discovered that the controversial name managed to sway some Editrix at the last moment to vote in his favour. Wonder who leaked the names of the Jury?Intense lobbying is still going on and in days to come i will fill you up with all the drama. What shocks me out of my wits are those designers who think that since they sell lehengas, they qualify as couturiers. The controversial designer who managed the Prime 12 slot also claimed he made lehengas and sarees and red-carpet ensembles for Bollytown Babes. I think they should call it Delhi Bridal Week instead of Couture Week if lehengas is what we will get to see. I sincerely hope I am wrong!

Sabya Rocked; Manish Malhotra fRocked…
The Day 1 at Couture Week had Sabyasachi Mukherjee showcasing his collection. His signature look was extended in his couture collection where Sabyasachi extensively used Bhagalpur and Murshidabad Silks. Intricate tapestry work, ornate embellishment with pearls and dori embroidery on voluminous kalidar lehengas sure would allure the bride-to-be(s). Loosely woven plain lehenga with gold sequined borders and sheer net lehengas paired […]
Delhi Couture Week Lineup Is Lacklustre
The Second Edition of the Pearls Delhi Couture Week scheduled for 20th to 24th July 2011 at The Taj Palace Hotel has a jury vetted list of Couturiers, which definitely failed to impress me. After a great debut last year, I was expecting a better lineup of couturiers this year but from information procured from […]
Couture Week In Troubled Waters
Just a few days back I wrote about a not-so-impressive lineup of Couturiers at the forthcoming Delhi Couture Week 2011. But then that was just a small problem in Couture Week’s way. On Wednesday (29th June 2011) FDCI got a jolt when the Title Sponsor – Pearls expressed their inability to honour their committment as […]
FDCI REVISITS THE VETTING PROCESS FOR WIFW S/S 2013
Hope you guys won’t mind if I blow my own trumpet for a change. Some might find it pompous but let me take this liberty for once. After 108.168.206.104/~fashions/ posted the story on “Should Designers Comprise The Jury That Selects Designers?'” (You can read it here: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-16e) a fierce debate took off that led many designers to […]
This Party’s Gonna Be Fun
It’s not everyday that you get to hear of Bollywood Stars throwing a party for their Non-Bollywood Buddy. The reverse is obviously happening every other day. Fashionscandal.com has learnt that Raveena Tandon and Zayed Khan are hosting a Surprise Champagne Soiree for their buddy Manav Gangwani. I discovered Manav doesn’t have an inkling of this. […]
Ex Wills Lifestyle Guy Taking over Anjana Sharma’s Role @ IMG Reliance
Guess it is time to get the news out! The person replacing Anjana Sharma (who was fired recently) at IMG Reliance comes in from Wills Lifestyle – the Apparel business division of ITC. He was with Wills Lifestyle since its inception and was part of the core team from Wills Lifestyle at the bi-annual Wills […]
Now AMR Joins Hands With Vijay Singh for An Alternative Couture Week in Delhi
There seems to be no end to fashion politics and no dearth of designers falling prey to people attempting at fracturing the fashion fraternity. Remember Vijay Singh – the man who had formed FDPC and had ambitious plans to disintegrate FDCI – is still at his games. Not satisfied with the lack-lustre Sahara India Bridal […]
FDCI & Wills Lifestyle Association Comes To An END
Curtains are drawn on Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Wills Lifestyle’s (a division of ITC) long association. The India Fashion Week hosted bi-annually by FDCI was sponsored by Wills Lifestyle for season after season, so-much-so that the acronym WIFW (Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week) became a habit with us. Post the introductory seasons […]
I wonder why only 12 designers have been chosen to do shows when the sponsor has agreed for 20..Who are these designers presurising the FDCI..shame on them…also giving free shows for Couture week is going to have every one up in arms….All FDCI members should get 1 free show every year…That’ll be acceptable to all..
20 designers for Couture would dilute it I guess.
Free shows for all in FDCI??? That’s getting greedy…
i think i know the designer, hes a bigtime celib ass licker and hangs aroud with b grade bollywood babes. he is more of a shaadi designer …
i think all this couture week ,mens week is just another publicity gimmick….wrs the business ?
the last edition in march hardly had any buyers ? fdci should concentrate first on getting the quality right….thr s no criteria for anythng…most of the times the jury also knows nothing…its bizzare..indian fashion scene just sucks…its all power game which decides whos showing and whos not…why cnt be thr any transparency.
Jack, how does one get passes to the couture week? I might still be in town by the time this rolls in, so might be interested in taking a look.
Hey, the Delhi Couture Week is rescheduled for 2ist July to 25th July 2010.
So if you still in town by then, will sure organise an invite for you.
hey jack its matt…mayb ill be in town near tose dates..is it possible to get passes from somwhea if i wanna get in ….
Matt, I’ll do an interesting contest on this blog before Delhi Couture Week. 10 Winners will get passes. hope you get lucky:)
I have long since given up on fashion weeks here. I know, I am jaded. I will thankfully be in England during Delhi couture Week.
Jack, Thank you so much for doing this. Look forward to the contest.
believe it or not! our politicians should take classes from the desi fashion fraternity, they have the best political moves when it comes to getting shows, sponsored slots, presidents candy s,meaning of couturier should be justified by your work and accolades , dressing up btown ladies, or making some super gawdy clothing with no aesthetics of design. wonder who is the judge here choosing the designers .
i think for such shows it should be made into a contest where each designer sends a piece of his collection those teamed collection then publish in a catalog, made to public all jury members should be named their credibility to asses.
ethics has to be set right to touch the global scale.
I thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
