The 2nd day at Delhi Couture Week I got to see some real couture. One from a relatively new star – Gaurav Gupta and the other from the maestro – Rohit Bal. Gaurav Gupta has been doing drapes since he entered the industry. I didn’t quiet like his Pret Fall 2010 collection where drapes were like forced upon the garments. But with his Couture Collection, I saw Gaurav evolve. His gowns were beautiful and the way he used the swan motif was interesting. His pre-pleated and draped saris are gonna be hotsellers. His tasseled gown, his black one-shoulder gown with puff-ball kinda bottom and his showstopper showed his creative genius.Gudda probably showcased one his best ever collection. His mulmul kurtas, his exquisitely tailored and textured long jackets, his rose appliqued gowns and dynasty shoulders, were simply mind blowing. There was nothing OTT. No heavy embroidery, no glitter and bling yet it was Minimalistically Opulent. I know it’s an oxymoron but that’s the only way I can describe Gudda’s beautiful creations. And no drama at Rohit Bal’s show? No that’s ain’t possible. His models walked into the pool in off-white tunics that floated and looked like huge lotuses. Gudda too walked in to deafening applause.

FASHION’S ULTIMATE SHOWMAN – ROHIT BAL
Indian Cinema’s once-upon-a-time Showman – Subhash Ghai faded out and is no more successful in pulling in the audience for his movie but Indian fashion’s ultimate showman – Rohit Bal weaves his magic and cast his spell every time. Rohit Bal’s shows are hypnotic. Their grandeur, their hype and the mad rush to watch his […]

L Capital’s LVMH-Like Model For India is Still Unclear
The Private Equity (PE) arm of Paris-based LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton – L Capital with Ravi Thakran at the helm of affairs gave a lot of hope to the Indian Fashion Fraternity to see ‘corporatisation’ of Indian Fashion Industry. Ravi Thakran being an Indian led the Desi fash-frat to unjustifiably believe that L Capital […]
India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2015 Ends With A Bang
Rohit Bal closed the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) Spring-Summer 2015 edition with a magnum-opus presentation. Bal’s designs were of course the star of the evening but so was Subha Mudgil who performed live. Here is a partial review of good shows that I penned for The Sunday Standard: http://epaper.thesundaystandard.com/354474/The-Sunday-Standard-Delhi/12-10-2014#page/3/1 By the way do […]
Menswear Spring-Summer 2017 @ Paris Is ‘Look-Alike’ of Indian Homme
The ongoing Paris Menswear Spring-Summer 2017 Fashion Week has nothing new to offer, especially to us in India. Big-ticket designers are showing what Indian designers had shown a year or six-months back. These pictures back my claim: See the printed floral bandhgala of Rohit Bal from sumer of 2016 and the one by the Parisian […]
Couturiers Cheer-Up. Positive News in Store for DCW.
When I BROKE THE NEWS on fashionscandal.com that, ‘Couture Week is in Troubled Waters’ as the Title Sponsor – Pearls backed out from the Couture Week because of impending matters with the Enforcement Directorate, the aspiring new couturiers in the add-on afternoon slot cried MURDER. No I won’t blame all the five designers who were to showcase […]
Rohit Bal inducted in Lakme Fashion Week’s Advisory Panel
Lakme Fashion Week has inducted Rohit Bal in their Advisory Panel. Post Wendell Rodricks exit from the LFW panel, a slot was vacant and Lakme filled up ably with Gudda. Does that mean we will get to see Bal doing the Grand Finale at the forthcoming Lakme Fashion Week? Most likely, I would say!
My Take on The just concluded India Bridal Fashion Week 2013
Money can buy you big designers, movie stars to walk the ramp, overwhelming ‘paid editorial’ but money surely can’t buy you honest reportage and most importantly – finesse! The debut India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 in Delhi ended on Sunday and the only high-point about this six-day affair were two outstanding collections presented by Rohit […]
Gaurav Gupta, Raakesh Agarwal & Arjun Saluja were Fab on Day 2 @ WIFW AW2012
The second day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) Autumn-Winter 2012 was a mixed bag. We had the tyrant of Bigg Boss 5 – Pooja Mishra walking the ramp. Come on spare us (no pun intended) the drama Chandrani! But yes the encouraging bit was some fabulous shows and my vote goes to […]
