WIFW S/S 2011 Dates Announced

India’s most prestigious fashion week – Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) Spring|Summer 2011 is scheduled from 23rd October till the 27th of October 2010. However the venue is yet to be decided.A certain group of designers were insisting for November but good sense prevailed with the majority and the FDCI Prez, Sunil Sethi to not hold the week in November but in October. November would have been too late with no money left in international buyers’ kitty.

Already 70 designers have applied for ramp shows and around 175 plus designers have applied for Stalls. I wish FDCI does a judicious selection and keep the number of shows around 35-40 max. More than this, it gets strainous for us scribes and lesser column-centimeter editorial space per designer.

  1. Clothing wise, there really ought to be to be high quality standards, and only designers with tremendous talent and skills should be allowed to partcipate. We have a lot of fashion designers in our country. Don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing? Accordingly, not that much talent and creativity.

well said, fashion inquisitive! there are too many fashion weeks mushrooming in every city and even NCR [Gurgaon fashion week!!!] and too many “designers” who either copy off International labels or “buy” from the local stores!!!!

Fashion Weeks have become tedious now, the same old people showing the same old stuff. I think its high time, FDCI gave greater prominence to newer designers like Varun Sardana and Gaurav Gupta instead of giving the same bunch of old designers the sponsored shows. Both of them are fully capable of doing an outstanding finale- how about giving them a chance – atleast they would do something new and creative!
