Fashion is a funny business. At times 25-year-old models are tagged ‘old’ and now 45 plus yesteryear supermodels are on the covers of fashion glossies and endorsing brands. British model Yasmin Le Bon has been tapped as the new face of Speedo Sculpture–a swimsuit line. At 49-years-old, Yasmin is as beautiful and confident as ever. About turning 50 this year, Yasmin says, “After spending 33 years on the modeling circuit I have heard all of the tricks of the trade. The best advice I’ve received on looking your best in a swimsuit, is to wear it with confidence and a smile; it instantly changes your appearance.”
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer (43) returns as the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s fall-winter 2014 campaign. Claudia’s last mainline ad for the Italian label was for the cruise 2009 season, but she also posed in a fragrance ad for the brand. Domineco Dolce captures Claudia Schiffer German alongside others in an enchanted forest setting with a fairytale slash medieval theme.
Christy Turlington (45) is a beauty inside and out, as shown from her Elle US feature from the publication’s July issue. The American beauty poses for Carter Smith in an editorial where she wears all looks from Calvin Klein. Christy recently appeared in the brand’s ETERNITY campaign alongside her husband Ed Burns. When asked about wrinkles and getting older she says, “Everybody is so anti-aging, but I don’t want to look younger than I am. Our face is a map of our life; the more that’s there, the better.”
Cindy Crawford is turning 50. With turning 50 being a huge milestone she will be releasing a new book with Rizzoli that is a telling tale of her modeling career as well as outlining some important things she has learning along the way. Crawford told WWD, “It’s not a biography. It’s sort of a hybrid book. It’ll come out in the fall before I turn 50, so it’s kind of a way to celebrate turning 50 as opposed to dreading it.” And look how hot she looks at 49!
41-year-old Heidi Klum was gracing the cover of June 2014 edition of the US
Weekly in swimwear.
Those 80s supermodel were the creme de la creme. Christy Turlington, Helena Christensen and Linda Evangelists were my absolute faves. Remember George Michaels Freedom video featuring all the glamazons? And wasn’t it madame Evangeliste who coined the phrase “I won’t get out of bed for less than 10000 a day”. But Turlington seems to be the only one who’s held it together some and kept a relatively normal private life. And she seems to be the only one who’s accepted the aging process as well. That she’s stunningly gorgeous even with the wrinkles and lines helps a whole lot I guess.
