Aishwarya_amfAR Gala_Cannesash_amfAR Gold_TahilianiWell Aishwarya Rai Bachchan finally had a fab-fashion season at Cannes this year. My favourite till now was the the black and white – shirt and skirt with a trail ensemble but when she turned up in a muted gold saree paired with a gold blouse, designed by Tarun Tahiliani for the amfAR Gala tonight, I must say she looked absolutely gorgeous.

The high-collared blouse was a brilliant detail that added to the look.

Deepika Padukone promotes Race 2 in DubaiDeepika Padukone_Thunderous Thighs_IPL6chennai-expressWoh…what’s happened to Deepika Padukone? Where did the washboard-ab and the toned body disappear? I mean I was aghast to see Deepika Padukone in her new voluptuous form at the IPL 6 opening ceremony. Even last night post KKR’s win over DD at IPL 6 opening match, Deepika’s thighs looked big when she walked along with Shahrukh Khan in the stadium. Has she put on bulk for Chennai Express? Down-south actresses with meat are preferred. They like their leading ladies to be buxom and bootilicious and yes they have a thing for thunderous-thighs.

Katrina Kaif @ IPL6SRK & DeepikaAish_Abhi_Shiamak_TOIFAKatrina Kaif looked pretty toned though but hey the pleasant surprise came from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In this picture taken after AB Baby and Ash landed at Vancouver for TOIFA she looks pretty slim.

The latest outing of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in London at the opening of Bvlgari Hotel and Residences did not attract scathing criticism from Fashion Police on her baby weight. The credit I feel should go to designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee who has mastered the art of covering and concealing ‘muffins and donuts’ with the super voluptuous Vidya Balan. The black and white number of Sabyasachi that Aishwarya wore to the Bvlgari event had kalidar construction that is ideal to conceal weight. The popularity of ‘Anarkali’ kurtas in recent times proves how paneled (kalidar) Kurtas conceal the flabs yet giving a smart and tailored look. No doubt the style is hit and omnipresent.

The dhoti-sari with a chikan-kari full-sleeve top that Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla designed for Aishwarya during her Cannes visit was an absolute disaster. Firstly the dhoti-style sari itself wasn’t flattering on Aish and the sheer top showed her tummy that would had been better concealed…in a sari draped in a regular style. By-the-way shouldn’t Aishwarya give-up the full-sleeved look???

Kudos to Sabyasachi; Thumbs Down to Abu-Sandeep for creations for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan!

I don’t understand why media is swooning over Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s red-carpet moment on the Opening Day at Cannes Film Festival 2011. Okay the one-shoulder Elie Saab gown was beautiful but didn’t look great on her. I think Ash looked like an ‘Auntie ji’! I guess she wore the gown that had a flaring out layer at the hip to kind of take away the attention from her derriere, which I think looked really big. Even the Cummer (Waist) is like a Kamra (Room). And what about the folds on the under-arm and sagging back??? She’s really become like those heavy and busty South Indian actresses. Salma Hayek post her pregnancy looked hot and Uma Thurman, who is much older than our Ash looked chic.

Saif Ali Khan was royally ignored. As customary, even his name wasn’t announced as he walked down the red-carpet in a Tom Ford suit and not a single flash-bulb flashed. Really sad dude. I mean even Minissha Lamba dressed in a Gauri & Nainika gown had her paparazzi moment but Saif had none. I think Saif Ali should have done some preparation like hiring a high-flying publicist and stuff. Chivas Regal didn’t do any of it. I am sure the  paparazzi took him to be a waiter or a random escort as he hurriedly walked down the red-carpet, unrecognised.

Elle has done it again and this time it is Elle -India, indulging in airbrushing the cover girl. Elle India is in hot water for allegedly digitally lightening the skin of their January 2011 cover girl, actress and beauty queen – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. On the cover, Bachchan is photographed in a lavish gold gown with a sleek updo hairstyle, but her skin tone steals the show as it appears many shades lighter than in candid photos and production stills from her Bollywood films. Ash’s inside cover story features photos in which her complexion looks just as retouched as the cover itself.

I wonder why Elle India need to lighten Ash’s complexion. She’s got a great complexion anyway. Or is it the typical ‘Gor-Gori’ syndrome that pushes the sale of skin-lightening creams in India that Elle fell for?

While Airbrushing is a common thing with fashion glossies but most indulge in photoshopping to clear blemishes or to tamper with the shape of the model. Lightening skin complexion of a Cover Girl is indulged by Elle not only this time but earlier too in the October 2010 of the American edition, which featured actress Gabourey Sidibe on one of its four celebrity covers with noticeably lighter skin than her natural complexion.
