Christian Wijnants from Europe is the winner of the International Woolmark Prize, it was announced at an event here during London Fashion Week. Wijnants receives $105,000, and his winning collection will be carried next fall in top retailers around the world, including Bergdorf Goodman in the U.S., Harvey Nichols in the U.K., 10 Corso Como in Italy, Joyce in China, Eickoff in Germany and David Jones in Australia.
The International Woolmark Prize was keenly followed by fashion lovers in India as designer-duo – Pankaj & Nidhi were in the illustrious list of 5 finalists. The global fashion competition recognizes creativity in merino wool. It aims to develop the next generation of fashion talent and to highlight wool’s eco credentials. The other finalists were Sophie Theallet from the U.S., Ban Xiao Xiu from China, Dion Lee from Australia, DressedUndressed from Japan, and Pankaj and Nidhi from India. The 2014 prize will take place in Milan, while the following one will be in Paris. The award is supported internationally by the key fashion councils, including the Council of Fashion Designers of America, British Fashion Council, Chambre Syndicale de la Couture, Fashion Design Council of India and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.
